In 1838, Peter Kaiser founded Europe's oldest existing shoe manufacturer in the Rhineland Palatinate town of Pirmasens. Only five years later, the entrepreneur was exporting shoes within Europe and further afield. In so doing, he laid the foundation for one of the first industrial shoe manufacturing businesses of international significance.
